Graeme came to Australia from
Scotland in 1967 and taught for
a year in Western Australia
before moving to Melbourne as an
industrial psychologist with the
then Department of Labour &
National Service.
After leaving the Department in
1970, he spent two years with
Mobil Oil Australia as a
psychologist and
recruiter/selector, and then
relocated to Canberra to join
the Public Service Board. In
1982 he was promoted to the SES,
managing a branch responsible
for professional/technical
career structure reviews, SES
classification issues and SES
profile control. He transferred
to the Department of Finance in
1987, and over the next ten
years worked in a variety of
areas, including classification
and job evaluation policy, SES
remuneration, retirement
benefits, Budget coordination,
asset sales, strategic planning
and cultural change, industrial
relations and human resource
management.
Graeme was appointed Controller,
Royal Australian Mint, in
November 1997, with
responsibility for the
management and leadership of the
Mint as an off-budget commercial
operating arm of the Treasury
Department. He was elected
Vice-President of the World Mint
Directors Conference for
1998-2000 and President for
2000-2002, and was awarded the
Centenary Medal in 2001. In late
2002 Graeme left the
Commonwealth to pursue other
interests, including consulting
and postgraduate study.
