In 1995 Des co-founded HBA
Consulting as a specialist
workplace relations company.
Since this time he has been
involved in assisting employers
in enterprise bargaining,
covering such areas as claims
development, negotiations, staff
consultation, workplace change,
document preparation,
facilitation and mediation.
Additionally, he has been called
upon to create new awards,
provide industrial/employee
relations training courses and
develop industrial strategies
for enterprise bargaining
negotiations and implementation,
as well as major organizational
and workplace change projects.
He has a proven track record of
successful negotiation at the
peak level.
Prior to establishing HBA, Des
spent eighteen years in senior
industrial relations positions
with the Australian Theatrical
Amusement Employees Association,
ACT Secretary of the Association
of Draughting, Supervisory and
Technical Employees and then ACT
Secretary of the Australian
Manufacturing Workers’ Union.
During that time, Des held
positions on the board of the
ACT Vocational Training
Authority as its Deputy
Chairman, the Industrial
Relations Advisory Council and
various industry training
committees. Des was also a
trustee of the CAN PLAN
Superannuation Fund and
executive member of the ACT
Trades and Labour Council.
Des is the past President of the
ACT Industrial Relations
Society. The Society actively
promotes awareness,
understanding and training
across the industrial relations
community of the Territory and
maintains links between
government, employer and union
representatives as well as
academia and members of the
Australian Industrial Relations
Commission.
